In 2015, the Illinois General Assembly passed legislation regarding transportation network companies, otherwise known as a “TNC” which includes Uber®. As part of this class, Uber must abide, in part, by statewide minimum requirements for insurance, vehicle standard requirements, and driver qualifications.

In 2017, the Michigan Legislature followed suit, passing legislation also establishing safety requirements for “TNC’s” and their drivers to abide by for purposes, in part, of compensating victims of Uber accidents under the law.

The specifics of the TSNP law are codified in Illinois as 625 ILCS 57 and in Michigan, M.C.L.A. §257.2123.
